The new year is only a few days away and most of the Opal Miner’s have left the Opal mining towns as it is Midsummer and new year celebrations are often celebrated with family or old friends.  Most of the successful and rich opal miners would be celebrating new year on the coast possibly renting a house or apartment on the beach possibly the Gold Coast, sunshinecoast and many returned to the cities where they were born. A few Opal Miner’s that were successful in 2008 also would be travelling to different locations around the world many enjoy the Philippines and Thailand as a destination as these countries are close to Australia where most of the Opal is produced and many of the Opal Miner’s come from .  As most of the Opal producer’s make a modest living they do not travel for their Christmas and New Year holidays and will be celebrating new year in their particular mining destination there will be celebrations in the black Opal capital of the world the township of lightning Ridge in the far north-west of the State of New South Wales Australia.  Throughout all the Queensland boulder opal town from the South West to the Central West and far North West towns there will also be many celebrations in the towns and the surrounding mining fields, the Crystal and the white Opal capital of the world Cooper Pedy and all the other Opal towns in South Australia will have fireworks and celebrations in a few days the start of 2009 new year.
